Does What You wear Matter

The Dangers of Wearing Polyester and other Synthetic Fibers

Today, we’re diving into a topic that's woven into a lot of our clothes but often overlooked: polyester. This synthetic fabric has become a staple in our wardrobes, but it comes with many hidden dangers.

 Synthetic Fiber Toxicity

First things first, polyester is made from petrochemicals. When we wear polyester, our skin can absorb toxic chemicals, which might lead to skin irritation for some folks. Conditions like dermatitis, resulting in redness and itchiness, can be triggered from exposure to polyester and other synthetic fibers.

Even if you do not develop rashes from exposure to polyester, this toxic fabric creates a toxic overload on your body which cause a plethora of illnesses and/or make it harder for you to detoxify.

 Breathability and Sweat

Another crucial factor is breathability. Polyester tends to trap heat and moisture. The fabric doesn’t breathe which can lead to overheating and uncomfortable sweating which creates a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. This can also lead to uncomfortable sweating, creating a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Opting for natural fibers like organic cotton, bamboo or linen, is a healthier option.

Polyester and Microplastics

Lastly, let’s not forget about microplastics. Wearing polyester has been shown to expose one to up to 400 fibers per gram of fabric due to shedding during just 20 minutes of normal activity. When we wash polyester garments, tiny fibers break off and can end up in our oceans. These microplastics can harm marine life and eventually make their way back to us through the food chain.

 Conclusion

So, next time you reach for that comfy polyester shirt, maybe think twice! While it’s budget-friendly and durable, the hidden dangers to our health and the environment make it worth re-evaluating what’s hanging in your closet. Start replacing your synthetic clothing with natural fibers such as organic cotton, linen and bamboo that are also dyed with natural dyes.

Overtime you will be surprised as to how much better you will feel as you remove the toxic exposure from polyester and other synthetic fabrics, and begin to detox effectively, improving your health and boosting the power of your Mineral Balancing Program.
